Thoughts on a Friday

Yesterday when I went and picked up our house keys (which by the way were left under the door mat by the sellers, a little odd if you ask me) I wandered through the house taking it all in; and then since there was nothing really for me to do in an empty house, I just sprawled myself out on the living room floor to wait for Tera to come pick me up. It felt good to finally be able to call the house ours.

And now it is Friday and tomorrow is the big moving day. I can't stop thinking of all the things that we still need to do before everyone comes to help tomorrow morning. We need to make trips to stores, clean the house, and there is still a lot to pack up. And I'm sitting here at work where things are a little slow for me at the moment (we are waiting to hear back from the clients on all six of my projects, and because of the nature of what I do there is very little for me to work on in the meantime) and I'm am thinking that I should just leave and get to work preparing for our move. It is especially hard on a Friday, with the weekend in sight, to have little to do to keep me busy at work.

It's Official!

I just heard from the title company and everything is now official! Tera and I have a house! I am going to go pick up the keys on my way home from work today. I'm super excited.

The Deed is Signed

Tera and I are now officially homeowners! We closed on our house yesterday evening, all the funding and recording should take place today, and sometime today we will be meeting up with our Realtor to get the keys. Other than the fact that we just acquired a large amount of dept and handed over the largest check (down payment and closing costs) we will ever give in a very long time, I don't really feel any different. I was hoping that there would all of a sudden be some transfer of homeowner wisdom and knowledge, but there was nothing. All that happened at the signing (other than signing and initially everything including the kitchen sink) is that I single handedly ate most of the cookies that were set out for us by the title company.

We have been really excited to finally have a house and it is still hard to believe that the moment has actually arrived. I think it won't be until we have actually moved our stuff in that it will really feel like our house. We really can't wait to move in this weekend. If any of you who read this need something to do on Saturday, come on over at about 9am and we will put you to work!

The Magic Leg

So the last week has brought about a revelation: I have a magic leg! Every morning my left leg starts out normal size, but through the day is slowly increases in size. My bony angle disappears first and my thigh then starts to become pudgy (at least from what my skinny self is used to). By the evening, as I am walking to bus stop to catch my ride home, I discover that I am no longer walking normal, but have a bit of a limp because of the extra pressure on my leg. It has been quite the adventure that has had Tera more than a little bit concerned.

Although it is a bit strange and uncomfortable, we don't think it anything that we need to be too concerned about at the moment. Most of you who will read this posting know a bit about the current condition of my digestive track (fast and wet). So I think as that continues to get better my body is faced with additional fluid to get rid of. And since I no longer have a single lymph node in my entire abdomen, the fluid has to go somewhere in order to get drained off. This is just my explanation though, I don't see my doctor for another three weeks still. We'll have to wait and see what he thinks.

Homeowners at last...

As many of you already know, Kevin and I have been living with my parents for a year (almost to the day) now. My parents and Keegan have been so gracious putting up with our quirks and our CRAZY dog Milly. Our intention was to stay only a few months, but then life happened, so here we are. This week we sign on our new house. I don't know what I really expected of house buying, but I know I never expected it to be as easy as it has been.

Here's our house buying story...

In December, Kevin and I decided that our financial situation was such that we should start looking for a home. People had been telling us that now was the time to buy. Well, we didn't really know how to go about buying a house! (Really, we hadn't done anything so crazy before!) So we emailed a realtor who quickly responded. In January we started looking for houses. We found a few we liked, but they were definitely out of our price range. We spent about 2 weeks looking. That was the most stressful time of all. Eventually we narrowed it down to 2 houses we liked, went and saw them again, and put an offer in on the one we liked best. The second time we walked in (speaking for myself) it felt like our house. Strange feeling. We "battled" with the sellers for a while, but finally agreed on a price that we could both live with. The inspections and loan have all gone well. Maybe that means it was meant to be! I like to think so. The past 3 weeks have gone so slow, and this week we will officially become homeowners. Besides the fact that we feel like we are signing our lives away, we are very excited and ready for this new adventure!

More details AND pictures to come!

Wintertime Blues

I thought by this point in the year, that the snow would have melted. Doesn't it usually melt by this time in Utah? Well, not this year! I am not one to complain about the snow, cold and cloudiness. I am actually usually the one that loves a cloudy day lounging in the pajamas, snuggling up in a blanket with a good book. But this year I have had it with the winter weather! I am ready for some sunshine and warmth. I would even venture to say that I wouldn't mind wearing some capris and no socks! Just flip flops. (Not that I would wear socks with capris or flip flops!)

This depression brought on by the weather may have something to do with the fact that my 3rd graders have had the equivalent of 3 weeks of inside recess because of snow/below 25 degree weather. Who can handle an entire day with no breaks, being cooped up inside. Or it may be brought on because of my inability (and hatred) for driving in the snow. The other day there were drivers on the freeway for 5+ hours because of bad roads and poor visibility. It could be that I haven't even made a snowman this year, but it is just too darn cold to do any such thing! It might also have something to do with my tendancy to worry about Kevin walking to the bus stop in 10 degree weather, trudging through the snow. Who has fun doing that?!

So if you have suggestions for my wintertime blues, I would love to hear them because March 20 is seeming very far away!

Joining the world of blogging...

I was first introduced to blogs just about four years ago. Soon after I quickly created one to see what it was all about. But I quickly lost interest since none of my closer friends or my family even knew about them at the time and I just didn't think I would have anything worthwhile to post on a regular basis. I suppose I might have introduced my family and closer friends to it, but I guess it had lost its luster to me after my first experience with it.

Now after four years, and after many of our friends and family are avid bloggers, Tera and I are going to give it another go. Maybe I still won't have anything worthwhile to post regularly, but perhaps some of our life experiences will prove entertaining or at least mildly interesting for somebody out there!

So here we go! Welcome to the Kevin and Tera Jeffs Family Blog!
