Farewell 2011

I can't believe another year has come and gone! Time seems to be flying by. 2011 was full of change and doing many things I never thought I would/could/wanted to do. I went on road trips, played hard, worked hard, said good bye to 6th grade, started a new job, and enjoyed fun family memories. I hope 2012 can be just as great!

What are you thankful for?

I enjoyed this mormon message today. I hope you do too!

I am thankful for the gospel, my family, friends, faith, the future and LOTS more.

What are you thankful for?
(Seriously, I want to know! Leave a comment.)

Funny Story

It was a snowy, cold November day. I had just finished running errands and cleaning house. I snuggled in my blanket to watch the BYU game. I was minding my own business, when the door that leads to my garage started cracking open. It didn't stay open, it just cracked. Sometimes the other doors in the house magically shut. I think it might be Kevin's ghost or maybe just the AC/heater. :) Anyway, that is what I thought was making the door move, so I thought nothing of it. I continued to watch the BYU game. But that door issue got a lot worse. The door was being pushed open, there was no doubt about it. I saw this happening, but my roommate was oblivious to it all. She just sat there watching the game. I started to think that I must be imagining things, but that was not the case. I was freaking out. My mind told me to just stay curled up in my nice, warm blanket and let some crazy person or ghost or whatever it was pushing the door open just come and take me away. But my body jumped off the couch and ran to the door. I quickly locked the door and stood by it. Heather looked at me with a look that said, "what the heck are you doing crazy person?!" She thinks that a lot. I told her there was someone or something outside in the garage trying to get in. I ran back to the couch and sat there in fear. We didn't know what to do. There wasn't any noise coming from the garage. I told Heather I would grab the broom and she said she would grab my phone. What was I thinking? A broom? Yep, I was going to beat whatever was out there with a broom. At least one of us was thinking rationally. Heather bravely got off the couch and walked toward the door. I stood behind the door with the broom in hand, ready to ward off this ghost. She slowly turned the lock, twisted the knob, threw the door open and ran away from the door. There stood...a little black cat! Seriously, a little black cat. It was pawing at the door.
I actually did shew the cat out with the broom-glad I grabbed that broom. I should have known. My garage attracts all kinds of crazy animals, especially this particular black cat. If only those animals knew how much I don't want a pet!
This little story has had me chuckling to myself off and on for the past 2 days. You had to be there, but it is pretty funny-two grown women afraid of a little black cat!

Scattered Thoughts

This post probably won't make any sense to you people, but I needed to vent or share or whatever this post is!

There are some days when every thought I have is negative. Nothing is going right. Everything is wrong with me, with the world. I hate those days. I don't know why I even entertain those thoughts, but I do. The last 3 1/2 years I have noticed have held more of those days than I like to admit. Partly because I feel like there are so many unfulfilled dreams. So many things I still want to experience, but which are impossible without a significant other. I feel like I am stagnant-in every aspect of my life. Discouraging!

As I sat in sacrament meeting I was trying to ponder the feelings I have and why. I still haven't found the magic answer. I wish I had. But I felt like maybe I could handle life a little better. I could have a positive attitude. I could make sure things were going right. I can accept me for me and work on me. As I work on me, the world would improve. I don't have to entertain those thoughts.

Those unfulfilled dreams aren't really unfulfilled. Everything is made right through the atonement. Why do I forget that? And I know that all those dreams that I have, even though they are not happening according to my time schedule, will happen. Things will work out. And it will work out in a much better way if I change my attitude and way of thinking.

I have a lot going for me. I am the luckiest girl to be able to live in this free country. I am lucky because I have the most incredible support system in the world...my family and the gospel. I am lucky because I have a healthy body that allows me to serve (if I just choose to!). I am lucky because I have a sincere desire to do good. I am lucky because I have the most amazing friends and co-workers, a good job, challenges that push me, a home that is perfect for me, the ability to think for myself, a chance to be human and make mistakes and make it better. I am pretty lucky! I can make my own dreams come true. I just have to remember what I DO have...little snippets of fulfilled dreams.

Fall Fun

Remember how much I LOVE this time of year?! Maybe you don't remember, but I do love this time of year. I have been doing my best to enjoy it. September was filled with a pedicure and football games, family time and fun hikes. October (so far) has kept me busy with a family reunion to Tuachan to see The Little Mermaid, Sundance moonlight ride, and a super fun date with my favorite Jackson boy!

Hopefully there's a little more Fall to enjoy!

My Crazy Life

Lately it feels like life is spinning out of control. If you know me, you know that I like to have some control over what happens. At least a schedule, a routine. Knowing what to expect each day. I'm a planner. What can I say? Well, all that has changed in the last couple of weeks. I think I am supposed to learn something. Maybe that change is good. Or that spontaneity isn't so bad. Right now I think I need to remember that I am not in control, God is in control. And then I am okay with it.
